GENERAL NEWS OF THE DAY l The House of Representatives at Washington Friday passed the navy bill to appropriate 465 million for the fiscal year of 1936. All relief stations in Illinois, except in Cook County, were ordered closed April 30. The Cook County stations are assured funds for ten more days. i From Paris comes words that the war alliance between France and Russia has been revived and may be signed in a day or so. A movement to disband the Chicago Curb Exchange was lost by three votes. The state highway engineer has submitted recommendations for a new motor vehicle code for Illinois. It is said that the plan to continue the N. R. A. until next March, instead of adopting a new one, is gaining backing in the senate. Sixty-seven Minnesota families have started for Alaska to take up homes financed by the FERA, while 40,000 natives of the Missouri Ozarks are to be transported, and each family given ten acres of land and be permitted to pay for it on a long-time adjusted basis. Christianity was denounced at a German pagan faith rally in Berlin, with 20,000 in attendance, and the police ousting all objectors. - , 1 I
