HATCH SILKS AGAIN IN FRONT Account for Feature at Hamilton for Second Day in Succession — Sweepstaff Easily. HAMILTON, Ont., June 28.— For the second day in succession the H. C. Hatch silks were flaunted to victory in the best race furnished at the Hamilton Jockey Club, when Sweepstaff, four-year-old home-bred son of Sweepster — Saffron scored in handy fashion to account for the Mountain Valley Purse, a gallop of one mile and a sixteenth under claiming conditions that served as the fifth event and principal contest for the fourth day of the local meeting. By his triumph Sweepstaff effected a double for the popular establishment, the first victory being obtained when Penabud won decisively in the Hopeful Purse, second on the card. Entrusted to jockey H. Peden, Sweepstaff showed speed when he dominated the race every part of the journey and at the end led Mrs. H. Nevilles seven-year-old Finalist to the finish by two lengths. Third fell to Catsweep, from the Parkwood Stable of R. S. McLaughlin, and Unencumbered showed the way home to Biography, which ruled as the choice. Sprinting into the leading position immediately after a good start, Sweepstaff, guided intelligently by H. Peden, was never seriously threatened as he led the way and at the end was in hand as he sped past the line. Finalist, after frequent efforts to cut down the winners margin, stuck it out to save second place by a head while Cat-sweep, in a fast finish on the inside, took third. Unencumbered, trailing for the better part of the race, also passed the disappointing favorite, Biography, as the former Bradley performer fell back after reaching the stretch.
