Midkiff II Wells HOMEWOOD, 111., June 28.— Racing at Washington Park for the year comes to a close with the initial running of the Washington Park Championship Handicap, at a mile and one-quarter, for which two smart three-year-olds and six older stars have accepted the weights, and seven other races at that local course tomorrow. Monday the scene of the sport in the Chicago area shifts to Arlington Park, where thirty days of racing, completing the first half of Chicagos major track season, will be staged. Meetings at Lincoln Fields and Hawthorne make up the closing half of =fthe T! the 1935 1935 major major schedule. schedule. Taking Taking into consideration the unusually I large amount of unfavorable weather j during Washington Parks tenure, J the meeting has been one of the most remarkable for attendance, betting and racing since the depression. "We are satisfied," said John P. Harding, 1 president of the new Washington Park . Jockey Club, in a statement today, "that the foundation of racing of the highest grade is stronger in Chicago than for many - years. We feel that with even fairly favorable weather, we should have proved this , fact by a highly successful Washington Park 1 1 meeting. The response to Washington I ! ] Parks new policies has encouraged us to * go ahead with the same policies and upon at least the same scale in the seasons to come." FINE RACE IN PROSPECT. Tomorrows big feature, the most important 1 race of its kind during the meeting, i is expected to prove one of the big treats of . the entire Chicago season. If no rain falls a good or fast track will prevail and, ■ under such conditions, the entire field 1 named today is likely to face the starter. The Latonia Derby winner, Tearout, and Calumet Dick, winner of his last two starts, . are the three-year-olds entered. Riskulus j , which will carry top weight of 119 pounds] j heads the older branch of the field. Others j in this group are Evergold, Watch Him I Gusto, Late Date and Silent Shot. j Regardless of track conditions and concessions . in weight he must make, Riskulus 1 . is seen as the favorite. While he failed in I his . only public appearance since arriving here from the West Coast, his trials indicate j readiness for top performance and, when at his best, the Northway Stable colt can well take care of himself with the strongest company. He will give five pounds to Shandon j Farms Evergold, and seven to L. T. White-hills Gusto. Other of the oldsters will carry Marhter imposts. Tearout. with 109, is giving Riskulus four pounds by the scale. Calumet Dick will shoulder 102 pounds, three under his scale allowance from Riskulus. A small but fast field of two-year-olds is l named for the Lake Forest Purse, the secondary |C feature, and well matched fields are c down to contest other of the races.
