TORONTO, Ont, June 28.— It is reported on good authority that the Dominion government has altered the criminal code under which thoroughbred racing is conducted to permit eight races per day on all recogi nized tracks in Canada, providing one race on each program is a steeplechase or hurdle event. Eight races have been run on a single day at various times in Canada, but no betting has been allowed on the extra race. The new law will, of course, permit betting on all eight events. This new legislation will be a boon to Woodbine Park, the only track in Canada now catering to the jumpers and which boasts one of the finest steeplechase courses on the continent. Sport through the field has declined gradually in Canada until at Woodbine Park, its last stand, only three jumping events have been staged at each meeting during the last couple of years. However, the new legislation may have such a stimulating effect that more mile tracks will lay out steeplechase or hurdle courses, ,
