JOMAHA STARK TODAY — • — One of the Six Named to Contest in the Dwyer Stakes at Aqueduct. i Cold Shoulder, Good Gamble, Cheshire, Exhibit and Thorson Complete the Field. ♦ NEW YORK, N. Y., June 28.— Just half a dozen of the eligibles for the old Dwyer Stakes have been named to go to the post at Aqueduct Saturday afternoon for that mile and a furlong gallop. Two of the A. G. Vanderbilt lot have been entered by "Bud" Stotler. They are Cold Shoulder and Good Gamble, the filly that won the Acorn Stakes for the young sportsman after she was purchased from Morton L. Schwartz. Naturally Omaha, the William Woodward champion, is at the top of the field, and he is under scale weight of 126 pounds. At this weight he gives away ten pounds to the other colts engaged, while Good Gamble is in receipt of seven pounds on the scale. The other three, besides Omaha and the Vanderbilt team, are the Greentree Stables Cheshire, Mrs. C. Oliver Iselins Exhibit, and Buckley M. Byers Thorson. It would appear that Cheshire, of the last group named, is best equipped to race a mile and a furlong. The son of St. Ger-l mans has improved considerably and has been winner of both his starts at the meet-! ing. In each of these efforts he has finished in a manner to indicate that the mile and a furlong will be much to his liking. Exhibit has trained well for the running, and his race Thursday was a creditable one and an excellent trial for the prize. Thorson has shown speed in several of his races, but like Exhibit he may find the mile and a furlong a bit too far. Good Gamble, in both the Acorn and the Coaching Club American Oaks, showed an ability to race nine fur-. longs, while Cold Shoulder, in private, showed a remarkable trial for the Belmont Stakes, though he has not been able to perform to that trial with the colors up. Of course, Omaha will be the choice for the running, and it is confidently expected the son of Gallant Fox will atone for his recent defeat in the Brooklyn Handicap when he was a bad third to Discovery and King Saxon. Since that failure he has worked well for Fitzsimmons, and he has been pronounced thoroughly fit. Should all six go to the post, as is confi- dently expected, the Dwyer will carry a gross value of 2,000. Another interesting event on the week- Continued on thirty-first page. OMAHA STARTS TODAY Continued from first page. end card is the Hornpipe Handicap at six furlongs. This is of importance for the reason that it will bring Peace Chance back to competition. This great son of Chance Shot, winner of the Belmont Stakes of last year, has been working exceedingly well for Pete Coyne and he is opposed by Edward R. Bradleys Boxthorn and George D. Wideners Kawagoe, a pair calculated to give him a stiff trial. The steeplechase of the day is under selling conditions and the platers also have an opportunity at a mile and a sixteenth, a mile and five-sixteenths, and seven furlongs. The one juvenile race of the day is a five furlong dash for maiden fillies. The following are the carded starters in the Dwyer Stakes, together with weights and probable jockeys: Horse. Wt. Jockey.
