NEW MODEL OF THE BAHR GATE Narragansett Park to Introduce Lat-i est Design in Starting Machine for New England Track. PAWTUCKET, R. I., April 7. Narragansett Park again leads the field with another innovation for the season of 1936. This time it is with a brand new model of the Bahr gate from which all races here will be started. Starter R. Morrissey has watched the designing and construction of this new 1936 model, and it was upon his enthusiastic endorsement and recommendation that Walter E. OHara jumped into and tied up the machine under exclusive contract. This model is the only one of its type in existence, and because of the construction cost went way over the bounds of financial practicability, no others will be made of this actual pattern. Morrissey sends word that the new gate is immeasurably superior to all previous makes. Of much lighter construction, it has extra large double truck wheels, permitting it to be moved at much greater speed and with more safety. The stalls are larger and a new type of backing bar, which automatically lifts out should a horse back under it, precludes any possibility of injury to valuable thoroughbreds. Although actually lower in height than the old models, considerably more head room is provided, thus eliminating chance injury to jockeys from rearing horses. Easily the most outstanding feature, though, from Morrisseys expert point of view, is the perfect visibility of all horses and riders afforded from the starters box. Bad starts are often caused by one or more horses backing out of the starters range of vision, but this highly important point is thoroughly taken care of with the new model. This new Bahr gate is expected to arrive tomorrow morning and will be immediately assembled. Morrissey is due in from his home at Redwood City, Calif., next week, and the schooling of horses from the new gate will immediately get under way.
