PROUD INDIAN displayed his usual good early speed ajid withstanding several challenges from DENBIGH, won narrowly under hard urg;ng. DENBIGH, well up from the start, made several moves at tlie winner in the stretch and after dropping back a tnfe in the last sixteenth was gaining again at the end. MADCAP YANKEE began slowly and dropped many lengths back of the leaders in the early running but came -very fast in the stretch and would have won in a few more strides. JAIPUR was weakly handled and dropped back in the stretch. DON GRAFTON was badly outrun. Overweight Madcap Yankee, 2 pounds; Chicolean, 3; Don Grafton, 3. SECOND RACE 3-4 MILE Out of Chute. ROTHERHAM. off well, followed the pace closely to the stretch then came gamely to catch SWEET MAYME and, drawing away from the latter in the last sixteenth,. won in hand. SWEET MAYME made the early pace and although tiring near the end finished far in front of the others. RED CANOE was always well up but barely lasted to hold third place. SIR WAG was taken up when in close quarters after the start and had little chance under incompetent handling although making up much cround. OPENING NIGHT, also taken up when in close .quarters after the start, had a rough trip thereafter and could never get close under very ordinary handling- FANION showed a flash of early speed. - Overweight The Way, 2 pounds; Lucky Quest, 3. BONHONEST, off rather slowly, improved her position steadily when fully in stride and coming very fast on the outside through the stretch, won going away. KATIE BELLE saved ground by hugging the rail in the last quarter and was going well at the end. AKSALA was never far from the pace and continued gamely through the stretch. OUR MORTGAGE closed much ground. GOLDEN CRYSTAL, taken up at the start, was under restraint to the stretch and dropped in behind horses turning for home, then came to the outside when too late to finish very fast. LIOLELE dropped back after going a half mile and can do better. EASTER STYLE and SIRLOIN tired badly in the stretch. SMALL MORTGAGE was in close quarters in the stretch and dropped out of it. Won driving; second and third the same. BETTY FARRELL dashed into a good lead soon after the start and cut out a fairly fast pace, but had to do her best near the end to hold MY LETITIA. The latter, always closest to the winner, gained gradually in the stretch and was going well at the end. DANFIELD made up much ground in the final quarter.
