1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES 1 Mose Goldblatts Dr. Menendez, a candidate for the ,000 added Bashford Manor Stakes to be run here May 9, continues to train well and display high speed. On Tuesday, over a fast track at the Downs, the young gelding flashed a half mile in :48, handily the quarter in :23. William Crump received word that the brood mare Cleo Marguerite, which he purchased for Willard Wilson out of the J. L. Carrick estate sale several weeks ago, died foaling. She was the dam of Barbara A. and Monon Lad. Walter Brannon will train all the Odessa Farm horses this season, it was announced by C. Hyde Smith here Wednesday. Acting for himself, Jake Lowenstein purchased the gelding Two Sons from the Wood F. Axton estate, and the horse has been taken over by his new owner. Trainer Jack Webber reports the satisfactory training of the fourteen horses he has at the Downs for J. S. Riley. Two young riders, one who has had some actual experience under colors and the other ready for his debut, may be seen in action during the Churchill Downs meeting. They are Charles Swain and Anthony Ross. Oican, winner of the Christmas Handicap at New Orleans, and Gold Decision, are the only horses W. J. Marlman is training at this time. Andy Fisher, former jockey, has acquired the filly Neon and is training her at the Douglas Park course.
