I HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES S Judge C. V. Hay, general manager of the Hawthorne track, reports so many stall applications that by the opening of the meeting some will have to be turned away. Hawthornes early dates are most popular with the horsemen. Bryant Ott, with thirteen for himself and the French Lick Springs Stable, will be on hand for the meeting. Among those in the Ott barn is the good plater Sherron, the gift horse. Jack Howard gave Sherron to Ott in a moment of disgust, and Ott has picked up several purses since then. Alderman John Coughlin will have one of the largest stables at the Cicero track. Most of the sixteen in trainer Heffernans J charge are progeny of Roguish Eye. The good performer, Advantage, is included in the list, too. Work at the track enlarging the paddock is progressing and will soon be completed. Both sides are ripped out and set back a few feet to give the horses more room. Ike Weil has reserved room for Slim Rosie, a stake winner last season, and she will be pointed for the Hawthorne sprints. Weil also has nine juveniles. Their names are My Grandson, Commish Geary, Judge Hasten, Ethel Shutta, My Chicadee, Johns Mae, Gene Essa, Maxine B. and Boots Greenock. F. Abbate will be represented by Prince Torch in Hawthornes Handicap events. Prince Torch last year won the Arlington Fall Handicap, the Texas Handicap at Epsom Downs, and was third in the Lincoln Handicap at Lincoln Fields. The Whitney cast-off, The Darb, will race at the Hawthorne meeting for Johnny Oros. Morning Mail is another in the Oros stable. Both have raced with the best of them. President Albert Sabath has scheduled a trip to New York this week to complete arrangements for the camera finish device to be introduced to Chicago at the coming meeting.
