1 BAY MEADOWS TURF NOTES hB : Dr. H. Emerson Davis reports the arrival of ten foals by the imported English stallion, Truant, at the Petaluma Ranch, which he is interested in with F. F. Webber. The foals are a fine looking band, according to Dr. Davis. Harry Morrissey has appointed his ground crew for the season. Included in the force of assist?nt starters are Joe Nelson, Vic Cowdell, Joe Wood, G. Philpot and A. Marshall. Trainer "Lex" Wilson announced that Azucar came out of his engagement in the Marchbank Handicap in good style and that he is getting him ready now for the ,000 added Fashion Stakes Saturday. The converted steeplechaser was never in better form. Trainer Russ McGirr sent Arson an easy seven-eighths in 1:32, breezing, Wednesday morning as a prep for the Fashion Stakes Saturday. Rex Buck has the hard-hitting soft track horse Mr. Bun back in training and the racer turned an easy half in :51, breezing, yesterday. Melvin La Boyne, who had "Basil James book at Tanforan, has been engaged to handle the rider in Kentucky and will leave with him" shortly for Louisville, where James reports for duty to his new employer, the Tranquillity Farm of H. H. Cross. Campillo, star of the Greenfield Stable, has been put back in training and is going in good style. He went sore at Tanforan and his training was curtailed as a result. William B. Finnegan is pointing the racer for several of the Bay Meadows fixtures. Jim Grimwood, who is training Only Daughter and Toro Blue, has been taken ill with pneumonia. Jockey Russell Sperry, leading rider at Tanforan last fall, purchased his contract from J. A. Parsons and will ride free lance.
