ADVANCE IN TRAINING WORK Memory Book, Brush Hook, Bright Plumage and Hollyrood in Trial Gallops at New York. JAMAICA, N. Y., April 16. Local Wood Memorial and Derby candidates had an off day today and horsemen centered their attention on the South Shore, which was offered as the fourth race at Jamaica. This event, at one mile and seventy yards, attracted a field of four to the post, and all are eligibles for the main events of the year. Bold Venture, one that wintered at Columbia, S. C, in charge of-Max Hirsch, carried the M. L. Schwartz colors, and it marked the return of this sportsman to racing after an absence of one year. Invermark, owned by the Wheatley Stable, and a well thought of maiden, Neap, from the Brookmeade Stable, and the Greentree Stables Galsao completed the field. This -race was looked upon as a public trial for the Wood, which will be run April 25. Memory Book and Brush Hook, owned by Greentree Stable, advanced another step in their spring training when trainer Bren-nan called upon them for a mile test. Memory Book was sluggish in the early stages of his trial, but finished in resolute fashion. He was timed in 1:44. The first half was timed in :53, and the six furlongs in 1:19. Brush Hook followed next, and he turned in a more even effort. His mile was clocked in 1:46, with the first four furlongs in :51, and the six furlongs in 1:18. Hollyrood, second choice in the future wagering on the Derby, went a half mile. He began from the barrier and was caught the first three furlongs in :37, and the half in :51. Clocks, from the Brookmeade Stable, and Delphinium were also called upon fdr a mile test. Clocks, a notorious poor work horse, finished some five lengths back of his stablemate, which was timed in 1:46. Bright Plumage turned in a handy mile and a furlong work in 1:54. The fractional times on this colt were :484i, l:014i, 1:15, 1:40, and finished out in 1:54. Bright Plumage is a Florida campaigner.
