HE DID OUT OF 5,000 ADDED TEXAS DERBY 9 1 COLT SENT TO KENTUCKY Task of Milky Way Farms Trio Made Much Easier. Rushaway and Ttennob Give Brilliant Displays in Last Workouts for Saturdays Big Race. ARLINGTON, Texas, April 16 Although the death of Silas B. Mason removed He Did, one of the leading eligibles for Saturdays renewal of the Texas Derby, from the field of probable starters, the brilliant trials of A. G. Tarns Rushaway and Millsdale Stables Ttennob over the fast inside track this morning gave indications that they were not out of the running and should be worthy opponents for Milky Way Farms stong trio of The Fighter, Sangreal and Doran. He Did and the others of the Mrs. S. B. Mason Stable, were shipped to Churchill Downs under the personal direction of trainer J. T. Taylor this afternoon. Whether the son of Victorian will fill his Kentucky Derby engagement awaits Taylors visit with the Mason family. Rushaway, winner of the Louisiana Derby, but a disappointment in his only start here, gave indications that his James Bowie effort was not up to his usual standard when he went a mile in 1:39 and pulled up a mile and an eighth in 1:54. The son of Haste was joined by Colonel Ed during the final half mile. With Johnny Longden astride, Rushaway commenced his task at the stand and clipped off the quarter in :244i, the half mile in :49, and the three-quarters in 1:14. Owner and trainer Tarn was greatly pleased with the trial. W. C. Stroube, who, with Tarn, owns the Corsicana Stable, also witnessed the work, and like Tarn, believes the horse has a capital chance of winning the rich prize. COMPLETE PREPARATIONS. Going the mile in 1:40 with Speedy Skippy as a companion, Ttennob completed his final stiff preparation for the local fixture. Directed by the veteran, Charley Cor-bett, who will handle him in his important engagement, the son of For Fair ran the quarter in :24, the half in :48 and the three-quarters in 1:13. After a victory over He Did and others in an allowance race at Santa Anita, the Millsdale representative came back to run a bang-up fourth to He Did in the Santa Anita Derby. In that rich fixture the colt was forced to overcome interference at the start, and trainer Anthony Pelleteri, who with M. L. Emmerich, owns the Millsdale Stable, stated that with good racing luck he believed his representative would have been the winner. In the Taylor Purse, which resulted in The Fighter establishing a new track record of 1:42 for the mile and seventy yards, Ttennob was only beaten in the last few strides. The colt moved into the lead near the final three furlongs, and although he failed to withstand The Fighter, he defeated He Did. Not unlike the Tarn connections, trainer Pelleteri is not ready to concede the rich prize to the Milky Way Farms eligible, and he believes the Millsdale colorbearer will be in there fighting at the end. MAY HAVE THREE ENTRIES. As a final prep, Sangreal breezed an easy mile in 1:45. The son of Sir Gallahad III. was full of run throughout and he was under strong restraint as he ran the quarter in :26, the half in :52 and the three-quarters in 1:18. Trainer Robert McGarvey announced this morning that he was seriously considering sending his three eligibles out for the prize. Danny Brammer has been engaged to ride one of them and Robertson, the contract rider for the stable, will be permitted to choose his mount. McGarvey has not selected a pilot for Doran in the event he decides to start the colt. After his brilliant effort against a field of older horses several days ago, Butsey Hernandez decided to give Flag Cadet a chance in the nine-furlong test and he will be named along with Lolschen. Flag Cadet breezed five furlongs in 1:04", stepping the quarter in :25 and the half mile in :51. Several other eligibles were dropped from the probable field this morning. Joe Roberts said that Tugboat Franks work Wednesday, Continued on twenty-fourth vaae. Indications now point to a field of nine going postward, although in the event of a muddy track that number probably will be increased. Resident manager Trav Daniel stated this morning that he expected the largest crowd in the history of Arlington Downs to be present. A handicap for three-year-olds and upward, an allowance race for horses of the same age division and an allowance race for two-year-olds will support the Derby. The handicap, aptly named the Roman Soldier, in honor of the winner of the 1935 Texas Derby, is expected to attract Time Supply and others that will contest the Central Centennial Handicap, the closing day feature, April 25.
