DENEMARK STRING POWERFUL Chicago Sportswomans Stable Is Strong in Every Division. Windy City Campaign of Canary and Blue Silks Begins With Opening of the Hawthorne Meeting. The powerful and well-balanced stable of Mrs. Emil Denemark, local sportswoman, returns to Chicago for a lengthy campaign with the opening of the Hawthorne meeting, May 23! The Denemark ho,rses were here last year racing under the name and colors of L. E. Komorous. This year they will carry the Penemark canary and blue. Trainer Bert Michell had one of his biggest seasons last year with the Denemark string. This year he brings thirty thoroughbreds to the west side track. Starting with a fine band of juveniles, Michell will have capable performers right on up the line, with capable stake performers in the three-year-old and handicap divisions as well. Possibly topping them all is a filly, Nectarine, which Michell claimed last fall and which he raced so successfully at the Hawthorne fall meeting. Nectarine was one of the real bargains of the year and was undefeated here. During the Florida season this daughter of Bull Dog Rose Leaves won three starts and in one of them upset Hal Price Headleys handicap star, Whopper. For the Chicago Derby, the 5,000 added Hawthorne feature, Mrs. Denemark will have Higher Cloud. One of the most consistent handicap horses in the business, Top Dog, will be nominated for most of the Hawthorne stakes. Top Dog won the Illinois Handicap last fall, and was second to Discovery in the Gold Cup race. Owaller is the No. 1 juvenile in the Denemark barn. This Blackwood filly has started five times, won twice and lost three times by a nose. All told, there will be nine juveniles here with Legion, another which showed promise. Several have not raced as yet. Jockey Jimmy King will so most of the riding for the extensive stable. A complete list of the horses for which Mrs. Denemark has made reservations follows: Owaller, Legion, Blushing Jean, Black Star, Mil. Hufstader, Jean Highbrow, Black Charm, Lowry and All Round, two-year-olds. Higher Cloud, Brilliant Light, Flavor, Gay Dog, Ralph C, Blind Pig, Rosevale and Furtive, three-year-olds. Nectarine, Top Dog, Corinto, Brown Feathers, Dark Woman, Surcouf, Chief Cherokee and Star Banner, four-year-olds. Chasar and Trahison, five-year-olds. Pot au Brooms, Mother Dear and Hecla, six-year-olds.
