BATTLING KNIGHT moved up steadily in the back stretch to head NO NO approaching the far turn and, saving ground while opening up a good lead, had enough left to withstand the closing challenge of MORPHEUS. The latter was closer up than usual in the early stages, came fast in the stretch and would have won with a stronger rider. JUSTA JONES was in close quarters while racing on the inside in the last quarter. LAST ATTEMPT made up ground to show a good effort. PORTCODINE was in close quarters in the stretch. SICKLEBILL, showing much improvement over his previous dull race, came very fast when called upon in the last half mile and, although racing to the middle of the track on the stretch turn, easily got to the front in the final eighth and held MERELY safe. The latter, eased back when in close quarters early, came fast to find an opening around the stretch turn and raced well to the finish. HAPPY HUNTER was used up making the pace and had little left for the stretch run. BE MINE tired in the stretch. PASS UP was done after going three-quarters. GREEN FLAME turned in a very dull effort. BRIMFIELD followed the pace closely in the early stages under restraint and, coming fast in the stretch to catch GOLD SET, won going away. GOLD SET opened up a long lead while under restraint in the early stages, but tired in the stretch and was probably short. JIM X., in close quarters going to the first turn, - dropped back, then moved up steadily after leaving the back stretch and was going gamely at the finish. MADAM QUEEN made up much ground to close fast. BOURBON PRINCE raced wide while making his move. SUN THRILLS was never a contender under ordinary riding. BUSINESS MAN raced wide on the first turn and was badly outrun. TUMBLE" IN showed some early speed. Overweight Business Man, 2 pounds; Tumble In, 3. Start eood and slow. Won ridden out; second and third the same. COMRADESHIP, well ridden, moved forward gradually when called upon to get to the front in the last eighth and had enough left to hold MAHOMET. The latter dropped far back soon after the start, came very wide to make his move and, finishing fast, was probably much the best. TRANSBIRD showed improvement over recent efforts and was coing gamely at the end. CHANGING WAYS made a strong bid after leaving the back stretch and drew up with the leaders an eighth from home, but tired in the stretch. ITSOWN tired badlv.
