HOLLYROOD RUNS TODAY Eyes of New York Fans Focused on Hal Price Headley Star. Appearance of Son of High Cloud Overshadows Youthful Stakes, Feature of Jamaica Card. NEW YORK, N. Y., April 17. Hal Price Headleys Hollyrood promises to steal the show away from the Youthful Stakes, the week-end feature of the Metropolitan Jockey Club at Jamaica tomorrow afternoon. The juvenile prize is the featured race, but there will be much more interest in the performance of the son of High Cloud and Mandy Hamilton by reason of his prominence among the candidates for the Wood Memorial and the Kentucky Derby. The race that has attracted Hollyrood is a dash of six furlongs and he is opposed by three other candidates for the Wood Memorial in Marshall Fields Tintagel, the Brook-meade Stables Clocks and the Wheatley Stables Seabiscuit. The other in the small field is Paul Junior, a three-year-old that has been showing well in recent gallops. As a final prep for this, his first start of the season, Duval Headley sent Hollyrood an easy half mile at Belmont Park in :51, but he has been showing several moves that would indicate he is right on racing edge. Clocks went a mile in 1:47 at Belmont Thursday, and both Seabiscuit and Paul Junior have shown well in the morning. Tintagel was raced in the Paumonok, his first effort since his victory in the Futurity of last year. His effort in the opening prize of the New York season was anything but impressive, but he can be depended upon to improve considerably over that effort. Seven have been named for the Youthful, which is a test of five furlongs to which ,500 is added and of these the Brook-meade Stable will be represented by a pair in Monument, a son of Flag Pole and Chosa, and Company, a son of Cohort and Watch Bracelet. Mrs. T. J. Lewis, who races under the name of Mr. Nightingale, also has a pair-in Cardinalis, a son of Le Voleur, and Bud Ara, that has also had some racing education. OUTLOOK GOOD. Harp o Gold is to represent Mrs. William Zeigler, Jr.s Middleburg Stable, and the others are John Hay Whitneys Court Scandal and Alvin Untermyers Scintillator, both of which have already had some racing education. From such a field there should be an excellent renewal of the Youthful that goes back to 1903, the first year of racing over the Jamaica course. It was in the Youthful of last year that Ogden Phipps White Cockade created something of a sensation by his victory, and while the roster of winners does not carry the names of any champions, it has invariably been won by a good two-year-old. With all seven going to the post for this renewal, the running will have an estimated value of ,275. Besides this a six furlongs race has attracted Hollyrood and Tintagel, and the Youthful is another six furlongs dash for the three-year-olds that promises well from the seven that are engaged. It brings out Mrs. W. Plunkett Stewarts Mower, winner of his only start on the opening day of the meeting, and C. V. Whitney silks will be carried by Tatterdemalion, which has been working well, and Miss Otis. Others in the small field are Galloglass, First Bid, Black Caesar and Merry Pete, making it a promising contest.
