MAORI LAD broke quickly from the inside post position to take a good lead in the early stages, bore out badly rounding the stretch turn and was headed briefly by KOREENA when straightened out for home, but continued strongly in the middle of the track and was going away at the finish. THE LAKE came fast to get through an opening an eighth out and raced well to the end, but was no match for the winner. KOREENA saved much ground around the stretch turn to head the field an eighth out, but was not good enough to last. IDLER was always well up. MOLLIFY dropped back when in close quarters early. BLACK RHAPSODY was forced to race wide. MY OPINION was never dangerous. Overweight Korcena, 1 pound; Mollify, 1. SECOND RACE 3-4 MILE Out of Chute. SUE GRAFTON, never far from the pace, escaped interference and raced gamely to the end. MANTECA displayed good early speed and was tiring when blocked by the winner in the stretch and was forced to pull up. SWEET MAYME was never far away and was tiring a trifle at the finish. GOLD RETURN leaped to the front in advance of the others at the start, but attempted to wheel and when straightened out was far back. TAKE IT EASY met with interference from GOLD RETURN at the start.
