1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES s Judge C. W. Hay, prominent racing official and general manager of Hawthorne, returned from a business trip to Chicago and stopped off in Louisville en route to his home in Frankfort. While here he visited with horsemen and officials at Churchill Downs and then proceeded home. He will rjeturn after the Churchill Downs meeting gets under way and will remain for the Kentucky Derby. Mose Goldblatt, Cincinnati turfman whose horses have been at Churchill Downs for more than a month, drove here Wednesday to "assume personal charge of his racers. He plans to remain indefinitely. Six horses, two of them juveniles, are in the stable which C. W. Damon is training here for J. G. Lang, Buffalo sportsman whose racers campaign under the name of the Elmtree Stable. The older horses in this establishment are Fast Stride, Epinique, Some Boy and Peloria. The two-year-olds are Blue Marque, a brown filly by Blue Larkspur and Martinique, and Lady Sybil, a bay daughter of Pharamond II. and Lady Sylvia. Collis S. Ormsby will start the Churchill Downs season with only one horse, a two-year-old filly named Grand Anna. She is a bay daughter of Grand Ace and Anna Dear. Irvine Kort, Louisville turfman, is another who is beginning the spring campaign with one of the smallest stables he has had in some time. He has only two horses, the six-year-old Timorous and Rolodo, a bay two-year-old filly by Vito and Lucky Xenora. - Prenny, which he owns in partnership with J. C. Glass, and John Allen and Judge Barkley complete the stable which S. S. Gano is training here at this time. Prenny is a two-year-old colt by Wise Counsellor and Rejoice, and John Allen, also a two-year-old, is a bay colt by Infinite and Faith. The latter is a half-brother to Judge Bark-ley, which is four years old. One of the largest stables on the grounds is that trained by Howard Wells. Currently he is training horses for C. E. Hamilton, William Midkiff, D. B. Midkiff, L. K. Hag-gin, Howard Oots and others. There are seventeen horses in this establishment, seven of them two-year-olds. The older racers are Tearout, winner last year of the Latonia Derby; Royal Lass, Cohort Lass, Sugar Foot, Schuie, Bistrita, Lucy, Burnt Trail, Kaimask and Maria. The juveniles, their color, sex, sires and dams are Prince Gay, ch. c, by Kai Sang Harrigan; Mary Soulard, ch. f, by Display Adriante; Skee-ter, br. c, by Ariel Mattie B.; Pharolar, b. f, by Pharamond II. Olar; Cherovan, ch. g, by Cherokee Van Sylvia; an unnamed bay filly by Desperate Desmond Lengai, and another unnamed bay gelding by Mount Beacon Sard. Larry Bogenschutz, James T. Clark and Freddie Burton, attaches of the racing department at Churchill Downs, have reported for duty and lost little time swinging into the business of accepting registrations, license applications and other details attendant to Saturdays opening. Bogenschutz and Barton came down from Covington, while Clark makes his home in Louisville. Six horses owned by H. R. Penneys Penn-villa Farm Stable and eight the property of A. C. Ernst are in the establishment which trainer J. H. Skirvin is preparing for the coming meeting here. The Penney horses are Kailin, Omar Nassa, Patti Sing, Lyn-vete, Kairack and Belnask, the latter two juveniles, while the Ernst racers are Almac, Al-Pan, Al-Sang, Yankee Waters and the two-year-olds Al-Bubble, Al-Galla, Al-Kit and Al-Au-Feu. The two-year-olds Urgent and Eurotus and the five-year-old Capt. Henry are the three horses which Henry McGarvey brought here several days ago from Latonia. They are owned by Pete Kappas, of Ft. Thomas, Ky. Urgent is a bay gelding by Haste and Natica, and Eurotus, a bay colt by Hi-Jack and Mem. Box reservations for opening day Saturday are much more numerous than for the same day last year, another indication that Churchill Downs is to experience its best meeting in years. Former jockey, Bert D. Kennedy, is training the horses of Charles Leists Char-Lei stable, which embraces four two-year-olds and a pair of three-year-olds. The youngsters are Happy Chatter, a chestnut colt, by Chatterton Miranda; Moandmo, a brown colt, by Morvich Mormaw, and two unnamed bay fillies, one by St. Germans Ship of War, and the other by Flying Ebony Blue Moon.
