Bobbie Thompson noted Australian turf writer whose comment in the Launceston and Ho-bart, Tasmania, publications has been a feature of these Antipodean papers fcr many years,, in a recent communication to: a Texas friend stated that J. E. Widener, president of Hialeah Park, had contracted for several of the latest Swanson starting gates, now in use in Australia and the Straits Settlements, and which Thompson claims are a decided improvement over the gates now in use in the United States. Thompson, regarded as one of the foremost authorities on breeding and racing; in the Antipodes paid the Daily Pacing- Form a high compliment on the 1936 manual, declaring this book to be the finest compilation of racing facts he had ever read, particularly stressing- the inclusion of Australian records and other foreign data as proof of the publications world-wide interest to racing- fans. "We have nothing like it in the Antipodes, and this will prove of inestimable value to me in future years," wrote Thompson.
