HOLLYROOD REGAINS MUCH FAVOR BY GALLOPING 1LE . IN 1:40; ta a GOES IN WOOD MEMORIAL Expected to Show Improvement in Saturdays 0,000 Prize- Granville, Teufel, Ned Reigh, Tinta gel and Also Others Assure Fine Field. - NEW YORK, N. Y., April 23. Indications are that Hal Price Headleys Hollyrood will show a greatly improved performance when he is sent to the post in the Wood Memorial Saturday, as is the present intention of Duval Headley, who trains the son of High Cloud and Mandy Hamilton for his uncle. In his only start of the year Hollyrood was beaten by Tintagel and Seabiscuit in a six-furlong sprint. He will like the mile and seventy yards of the Wood Memorial better and his final for that running at Belmont Park this morning was impressive when he went along for a handy mile in .1:40. The colt showed a smart turn of early speed, going the half in :47, the five furlongs in :59 and the six furlongs in 1:12. Such a move should tighten him up nicely for the 0.00ft prize and it gives him some new importance in the Kentucky Derby, which at this time is his real objective. Most of the other probable starters in the Wood Memorial have completed their training, either in races or in training efforts and there is still every prospect that not less than ten will be seen under silks. Granville will undoubtedly be the post choice for the running, and James Fitzsimmons will probably send out one other to bear William Woodwards good colt company from his various eligibles. DELPHINIUM IMPROVED. Delphinium, which ran in the Chesapeake Stakes at Havre de Grace for Mrs. Isabel Dodge Sloane, completed his training with a smart gallop Wednesday morning and the son of Blue Larkspur is confidently expected to improve over his Maryland showing. Willis Sharpe Kilmers Ned Reigh will be benefited by his recent second to Granville, and he is another that is sure to improve tomorrow. The son of Neddie was not abused by Workman in that first start of the season and he was giving Granville weight, while in the Wood Memorial they corne together under equal weights. Max Hirsch has been undecided whether or not he would send out Morton L. Schwartz Bold Venture, but the son of St. Germans is right at himself and five furlongs over the Belmont Park training track in 1:02 this morning was enough to indicate that he may be of the field. Then Hirsch also has Split Second, from the King Ranch, that may be raced. This good daughter of Sortie and One Hour was winner of the Selima Stakes at Laurel lasr. fall. She shows an ability to carry her speed a route and has been training nicely at Belmont Park. Bright Plumage is the C. V. Whitney choice for the Wood Memorial and, in addition to having a seasoning in Florida, he i3 another that started in the Chesapeake and Continued on twenty-third page. Thus it appears that the field will come from William Woodwards Granville, Wheat-ley Stables Teufel, Willis Sharpe Kilmers Ned Reigh, Brookmeade Stables Delphinium, Greentree Stables Galsac, C. V. Whitneys Bright Plumage, Sage Stables Pullman, Hal Price Headleys Hollyrood, Marshall Fields Tinlagel, and possibly both Morton L. Schwartz Bold Venture and the King Ranchs Split Second.
