j WRIT OF MANDAMUS DENIED j ! SPORTSMANS PARK CLUB ♦ » ±~ — — — — + Superior Court Judge Joseph David today denied the National Jockey Club a writ of mandamus which would compel the Illinois Racing Commission to revise the 1936 racing dates to give Sportsmans Park more than the eighteen days in October allotted to it. The half-mile track across the Illinois Central Railroad tracks from Hawthorne objected to the dates when they were announced and appealed to the commission to change them. After three hearings on the matter, the commission decided the dates should stand as allocated. Attorneys for Sportsmans Park then appeared before Superior Court Judge Joseph Kelly, asking for a writ of certiorari, which was granted. Todays hearing was the last resort, barring the supreme court, for Sportsmans Park, and Attorney Markman and his associates are determined to carry the case to the highest tribunal in the state. However, Father Time may defeat the attorneys purpose, because the case may not be heard by the high court until after the present racing season has passed into history.
