SAN MATEO, Calif., May 13— The Holly-wood Racing Association, headed by A. T. Jergins, Long Beach capitalist, and Charles T. Cooper, Southern California ranch owner and horse breeder, is making a determined effort to obtain the second racing permit in the Los Angeles territory. Recently turned down for winter racing dates for the 1936-1937 season, they have submitted an amendment for dates to the California Horse Racing Board. The amendment reads: 1 We hereby make application for a permit allocating to the Hollywood Racing Association one half the winter dates allotted to Los Angeles county for the winter season of 1937-38. 2 Upon condition that the permit be granted we hereby make application for a permit for a summer racing season to be held in the summer of 1938, running through the month of June. 3 Upon condition that the permit applied for in 1 be granted we make application for a permit to operate a summer meeting in 1937 in the month of June. 4 We are willing to agree to conduct the summer meeting referred to in 3 in 1937 if your honorable body will grant us a permit for twenty-five winter racing days in the winter racing season of 1936-37. A. T. Jergins and his associates yesterday purchased a 620-acre tract of land near Hollywood, where they will construct their racing plant. It is reported that more than 00,000 was paid for the land. The property is in a valley secluded by foothills and is ranch land away from any residential section. It is surrounded by country suitable for thoroughbred breeding and country estates. The association plans to construct a steeplechase course for international jumping contests, an arena for horse shows and sales paddocks for annual yearling sales. In addition to the main track there will be a training track to accommodate horses during the racing season and throughout the year, with horse barns and facilities open the year round. »
