i HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES f e $ Apprentice R. Dotter reported ill and H. Callahan substituted for him on Pharolar, his only mount. An oil painting of Discovery and jockey J. Bejshak, executed by Melborn J. Hughes, renowned Chicago artist, is on display in the Hawthorne clubhouse. The gold trophy won last fall by A. G. Vanderbilt, through the victory of his handicap champion, Discovery, in the Hawthorne Gold Cup, is being completed by the Peacock jewelers and will be on exhibition at Hawthorne next week. The trophy, done in gold, is a replica of Discovery and jockey J. Bejshak, the day of the race with the Vanderbilt colors and those of the blinkers and other equipment embossed on it. Hawthornes Decoration Day turnover in the mutuels and "Daily Double" aggregated 02,685, one of the largest handles in the history of the track. While evidence of the showers that fell Sunday night still was visible at Sportsmans Park this morning, Hawthorne presented a fast track for morning training. The course at Sportsmans was slow.
