pHAWTHORNE TURF NOTES Jockey A. Robertson was fined 5 for failing to keep Metaurus, winner of the third race at Hawthorne Monday, straight in the stretch. Transmutable, Old Gold Stables sprinter, is back at Hawthorne following a trip to Latonia, where he did not fare so well in the renewal of the Quickstep Handicap, which was run Saturday and won by Myrtlewood. Jockey A. Fermin also returned from the Kentucky track. All Juniors, a two-year-old owned by Mrs. G. S. Miller, has been thrown out of training and will be turned out at the L. M. Severson farm near Elgin. Former jockey F. J. Baker is here in quest of several horses suitable for racing on the West Coast. F. P. Choate, owner of several horses now campaigning at Riverside Park, is a visitor and may remain for ten days. Former jockey Pat Garrity is making the engagements of. Glen Smith, who has reported to the J. J. OByrne stable. Injuries suffered by Lame Duck when he fell here Saturday, may lay him up about three weeks, according to trainer Otto Bag-ley. The horse bruised and skinned both knees. William West has filed application for a jockeys license. West has not ridden since 1935. He is in the employ of Three Ds Stock Farm Stable. During the absence of trainer B. B. Williams, who is at Belmont Park to direct the final preparation of Count Morse for the Belmont Stakes, Cliff Thomas will look after the Calumet Farm horses at Hawthorne. Williams is expected to return immediately after the Belmont fitakes. Clifford Helm, owner and trainer of a stable racing at Hawthorne, left for Madison, Wis., to be under the care of Dr. Cook-sey. Mr. Helm, a disabled ex-service man, has been ailing the past month. C. J. Ad-well will uaddle his horses until his return. Horace Wade, director of publicity and advertising at Narragansett Park, is here for a short stay during which he expects to secure quite a number of nominations for the ntakes to be run during the thirty-seven days meeting, which opens August 15. With an off-day in the National League schedule, many members of the Cubs and Giants squads were visitors at Hawthorne Monday.
