BAY BUBBLE INCONSISTENT Scores Neck Victory Over Black Mistress at Rockingham. Fleet Daughter of Bubbling Over Leads Throughout in Tomlin Handicap Al Carlys Graduates. SALEM, N. H., June 1 The fleet but inconsistent Bay Bubble, under the jacket of W. C. Stroube, of Texas, drove to a neck victory in the Tomlin Handicap, the six furlongs feature of the program here this afternoon decided before a gathering of about 8,000 spectators. The fleet daughter of Bubbling Over, which finished eleventh recently in the Roseben Purse, and was reported to have been cut down in that contest, showed no ill effects today, as she took the lead at the outset and stayed in command throughout the race, staving off the stretch challenge of H. Teller Archibalds Black Mistress at the end of the journey. Third in the event was Alfred G. Vanderbilts Speed to Spare, the favorite along with his stable mate. Sobriety. A field of seven horses paraded to the post in this race, which was originally labelled the Lawrence Handicap, but which was changed to Tomlin, combining the names of Thomas and Linda McKoy, children of one of the directors of the" track. Bay Bubble, despite her dismal showing the other day, was second choice, but she ran like the Bay Bubble of better times. She fought out the early running with Black Mistress, Mrs. J. Freedmans Little Nymph and Mrs. Ed Haughtons Black Highbrow. As the field neared the turn for home Speed to Spare moved up to a challenging position, but Bay Bubble then straightened out to take the lead and hold it to the end, though Black Mistress rallied. Speed to Spare faltered in the stretch drive, but had enough to finish in the show slot. After the running the stewards announced that Bay Bubbles entry would be refused in the future because of her inconsistency. Merovech, a horse that likes a muddy track, found the deep going at this park to his liking and romped home three lengths in advance of Danny Sheas Currants in the first event, over six furlongs. The winner, carrying the silks of Mrs. L. C. White, came from fourth place to get the decision. In one of the most thrilling finishes of the afternoon, Al Carlys, acquired last outing via the claiming route by H. T. Archibald, won at the first asking. The winning performance came in the five "furlongs of the second, fashioned for maiden juveniles under claiming conditions. It was by the narrowest of margins that Al Carlys defeated the fast closing Copo. Toothpick was a rapid going third. Witless, the well-supported choice, gave way badly after holding the command for the first three furlongs. Millimeter, a highly reported good thing in his last outing here, made good today in the five and a half furlongs of the third event, scoring by two lengths over Parva Stella. The winner carried the colors "of W. H. Laboyteauxs stable and the second horse was under the silks of Mrs. V. Wyse. Jockey Le Blanc, who is riding well at this point, piloted the victor. Good Omen, the favorite, finished third, a half length back of the second horse, and My Blonde was fourth.
