LONGDENS FINISH FACTOR , Scores Second Victory of Day at Salem Astride Ladfield. , Sun Fighter First Winner of Day for Rider Crane Horse Wins Claiming Stakes. SALEM, N. H., June 4. Mrs. C. Cranes Ladfield, ridden by J. Longden, won the Canobie Lake Claiming Stakes, which featured todays card at Rockingham Park, finishing like a whirlwind in the stretch to earn the decision over Joseph Bartells Bub-blesome. Greentrees Black Buddy was another half length back in the driving finish, and Mrs. H. H. Browns Happy Helen ran fourth in the field of six that started after Hollyhock was scratched. Wimmer, on the second horse, lost his whip right at the start and was handicapped because of that in the drive. It is doubtful if Bubblesome would have beaten Ladfield had the accident not occurred, however. Bubblesome set the pace on the first turn and all down the back stretch, pursued most closely by Gay Edward, with Black Buddy third and Longden rating Ladfield in fourth place. Happy Helen could not be whipped up fast enough by Haines in the short run to the first turn and, as is usually the case with outside horses in mile races here, was forced wide. The order remained the same down the back stretch and to the stretch turn, where Gay Edward began to drop back and Ladfield began to work his way up gradually. He was right after the leader as they hit the head of the stretch, and from that point on the pair staged a neck-and-neck battle, with Ladfield, under Longdens strong finish, proving best. Black Buddy ran an even race to finish third, and Happy Helen gained a little ground in the stretch run. The mile was run in 1:40 over a track that was classed as fast, but which was slightly off. It was the second winner of the day for Longden, who piloted Sun Fighter in a previous race. My Blonde, under a well judged ride by Hightshoe, won her first race in two years when she carried the green and gold silks of T. J. Sullivan home in the six furlongs dash that opened the program. She came from fourth place on the turn and was drawing away from Trimont Stables High Treason, which had set the pace to the head of the stretch, as she finished with a length and a half to spare. High Treason beat B. N. Kanes fast closing Annarita two lengths for second place, and the latter, coming like the wind in the last seventy yards, caught Fortunate Youth right at the end. They went in 1:14 flat over a track officially designated as good. Martin Maddens Cascapedia, a well backed good thing, led the field in the fourth event, coming from behind the pace on the stretch turn to draw away to a length score. Mrs. V. Wyses Wise Will finished second and Mrs. Nat Rays Keokee third, in the field of seven. Lady Sage, from the D. Y. Elander, Jr., stable, was beaten only a neck for the show award. Keokee set most of the pace, pursued most closely by Fez. The latter, which won his last at this point, was moving up considerably on the class scale and they began to run too fast for him at the three-eighths post. From that point ha dropped back steadily. Keokee also began to tire turning for home, and Jacobs drove Cascapedia up in a determined charge that was not to be denied. Miss Dignity, after rearing and raring and cutting up generally at the post, led every step of the mile distance to win the one mile event that was sixth on the card. Stafford got her away fast and whipped her to the front in the run to the first turn, to avoid losing ground at that point, as most of the outside horses here do. She led by a length and a half down the back stretch, but Swamp Angel began to gain on her on the turn for home, and she came into the stretch only a head in front. Stafford did not drive her hard until the final fifty yards, and she drew away slightly. Bobs Boys, under the colors of George Moser, was within striking distance all the way and finished third. Time for the mile was 1:40.
