FIELD DAY FOR FAVORITES Public Choices at Agawam Vindicate Judgment of Backers Track Dries Fast, Rated Good. AGAWAM, Mass., June 4. Winning favorites again, had a field day when-they had one of their best days since the opening of the present Agawam meeting. Pharatime scored her first victory at this point for Mrs. Edward Haughton when the brown gelding lasted to beat Eldec a length, while Kent was some two and one-half lengths farther back. The race was named in honor of the Massachusetts State Democratic convention, which is now in session at Hotel Clinton, Springfield. This marked the second winner of the afternoon for jockey Arthur Cooper, leading rider at the present time. Cooper was in somewhat close quarters in the run down the back stretch, being hemmed in next to the inner rail by Eldee and Kent, but the lad rode a confident race, patiently waiting until he found room, then rushing his mount up until as they swung for home he had a short lead. With both boys riding to the best of their ability, Pharatime and Eldee soon drew away from Kent, staging a stretch duel that had their respective followers on their feet shouting hard for their favorite. Passing the seventy-yard post the pair still raced closely lapped, but Cooper in the final drive proved the better rider, getting his mount past the wire a length to the good. The weather was again of the mid-summer variety, while the track, though slow during the early morning hours, rapidly dried out until it was good before the horses paraded to the post for the feature. The attendance showed an increase, with the money handled through the "tote" windows larger. o
