DATES FOR JAMAICA STAKES Confirmation of Dates by Commission Leads President Kilroe to Announce Features. NEW YORK, N. T., April 2. The New York State Racing Commission having approved the schedule submitted by The Jockey Club for the 1938 race meetings under its jurisdiction, President Edward P. Kilroe has designated the following dates for the running of the seven stakes features at the Jamaica course spring meeting which starts Saturday, April 16. and continues for nineteen days, ending Saturday, May 7: Saturday, April 16 Paumonok and Youthful Stakes. Saturday, April 23 Stuyvesant Handicap. Saturday, April 30 Wood Memorial and Jamaica Handicaps. Saturday, May 7 Excelsior Handicap and Rosedale Stakes. Among this seasons entries for the 0,000 Wbod Memorial Stakes are: Fighting Fox, Lavengro, Thanksgiving, Steel Knight, Stagehand, Bourbon King, Cant Wait, Pasteurized and Opera Hat. The Wood Memorial is the first of the seasons major struggles for championship honors and is looked upon by turf followers as an index of the relative merits of three-year-olds. Gallant Fox and Twenty Grand started their championship careers by winning the Wood.
