BULL LEAS TRIAL IMPRESSES Warren Wright and Charles McCul-loch Watch Bull Dog Colt Gallop Six Furlongs in 1:14. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 16. Frank Kearns vanned Warren Wrights Bull Lea over to Keeneland from Calumet Farm to work him this morning; and the Chicago-owned Kentucky Derby and Blue Grass Stakes candidate turned in one of the most impressive trials of the season when he ran a mile in 1:39, handily. Accompanied by Crossbow II. for seven furlongs and directed by Irving Anderson, who will handle him in his big engagements, Bull Lea began his task at the mile post of the mile and one-sixteenth track. Well in hand throughout, he was clocked the quarter in :21, half mile in :48 and three-quarters in 1:14. He ran his final quarter in :25 and appeared to be only galloping. Mr. Wright and Charles McCulloch, chairman of the board of directors of the Arlington Park Jockey Club, came over from the farm to view the work, and they appeared greatly pleased. It was the second time since he started his Kentucky Derby preparation that the son of Bull Dog Rose Leaves was vanned from the farm for a mile drill, and he will make his seasons debut in the Mereworth Purse Thursday. This race will serve as a preparation for the Blue Grass Stakes, to be offered on the closing Thursday and, unless plans miscarry, Menow also will be under colors for the mile and one-sixteenth journey. Crossbow n. was timed his seven furlongs in l:27J5 and he went along head-and-head with the Bull Dog offspring. Dah He, one of the secondary Derby hopes in the Hal Price Headley barn, worked a mile in 1:42, handily. He commenced at the mile post and, working back to the stand, ran the quarter in :25, half mile in :50 and three-quarters in 1:166.
