I JAMAICA TURF NOTES g $ B. F. "Shorty" Mason made his first appearance of the year. He was laid up during the cold months with influenza and heart trouble. Charles Parrelli died at his home Thursday. He was employed as a jockeys board attendant. C. H. "Fat" Knebelkamp arrived from Florida and reported that his horses shipped in good condition. Chick Lang, former rider of Reigh Count, arrived here from Baltimore and was granted a license as jockey agent. He will handle the engagements of Nick Wall for the season. The T. P. Morgan horses, in charge of trainer E. L. Snyder, arrived at Belmont Park. A division of the Millsdale Stable, in charge of Tony Pelleteri, arrived at Belmont Park from Bowie. Edward Trotter, with the horses owned by Val Crane of Chicago, arrived at Aqueduct from Louisville, where they were wintered. Milo Shields notified track superintendent Maher that he would arrive at Jamaica from California. Thomas McCreery arrived at Belmont Park from Florida with the horses he campaigned there during the winter. Jack Cartier arrived from California. He is agent for the T. P. Morgan stable. Terry Farley, custodian of the jockeys room distributed license application blanks to recently arrived jockeys from winter tracks. Jockey Eddie Arcaro arrived from Florida and reported to trainer Brennan of the Greentree Stable. Frank Stevens was on hand to supervise final details of the catering services for the opening day. Ringmaster Jimmy Chamberlain said that eighty or more layers would cut in for the opening day. He passed upon that many applications Thursday. Trainer Roy Waldron reported that his charges owned by Mrs. C. Oliver Iselin wintered in good shape and would be seen in action next week. Don Cameron arrive 1 from California with eighteen horses. They are owned by J. Shirley Riley and Mrs. Vera S. Bragg. Eddie Brennan of the Maryland Jockey Club arrived from Baltimore to interest horsemen in the supplementary closing of the Preakness Stakes. Eddy Hodgson arrived from Hot Springs, Ark., and reported that Mrs. Hodgson suffered two leg fractures in a fall in that city. Louis Tauber took over the horses owned by C. S. Bromley that were trained by Joe Bauer during the Miami season. Among recent arrivals at Jamaica were horses owned by P. T, Chinn, F. A. Moore, W. Durnan and L. H. Nimkoff. John L. Donovan arrived from Florida with the horses owned by William H; Gallagher. As in past years, Douglas Geddes will be in charge of the turnstiles and gate admissions. Track superintendent Tommy Maher pointed out among the new improvements completed over the winter were a new gentlemans lavatory and a new bar for grand stand patrons. Johnny Walker, dean of the jockeys room valets, was recently discharged from the hospital where he underwent a bone scraping operation on his jaw.
