1 BAY MEADOWS NOTES Herbert Newman, San Francisco turf follower and former owner, who has spent the winter on the coast, recently departed for New York for the summer racing season. Jockey D. Neal was suspended for the remainder of the meeting for rough riding in the first race Thursday. Neal rode Cliff Pan, which finished second. Albert "Spec" Dunne, who is training one of the largest public stables in this region, is an arrival from Santa Anita, where he rested the horses under his care. Dunne brought eight head from the Arcadia course, namely, Royal Reigh, Renege, Royal Feast, Alice Faye, Elseebee, Playback, Indian Dream and an unnamed three-year-old. Before leaving for the North, Dunne sent Cloud o Dust to the court of Manners Man, which is standing at Marwyck Ranch. He also turned out Rhadames and Dashwood for a few months. Dunne plans to leave next Tuesday for Lexington, Ky., to purchase more horses for the various owners for whom he is training and will remain in the Blue Grass State to witness the running of the Kentucky Derby. Among the owners for whom Dunne is training are David Butler, W. C. Rigg, Don Ameche and C. H. Lauck, better known as Lum, of Lum and Abner. Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Cooper returned to Bay Meadows Thursday after spending two weeks in the region of Oregon, where they went to visit the parents of Mrs. Cooper. Cooper, who has several horses of the public stable he is training at Santa Anita, will return to that point after the running of the 515,000 added Bay Meadows Handicap. Nelson A. Howard, owner of Gosum, one of the formidable candidates for the Bay Meadows Handicap, Saturdays feature, came from his home in Pasadena. Ted Horning, trainer of W. E. Boeing, has sold the three two-year-olds he has at his place at Concord, Calif. W. Osborne, representing C. M. Willock in the deal, obtained the unnamed trio at private terms. The juveniles are the progeny of Rip Rap. Jockey Vere Thompson plans to take a vacation after filling his engagements at Bay Meadows Saturday. The veteran rider will journey to Renton, Wash., where he will visit with his parents for about two weeks before returning to Tanforan, where he will resume riding. Trainer William Renn, acting for Miss Alice Hansbrough, sold the three-year-old Madera Chief to H. M. Hollyfield, under whose colors he will fill his future engagements. Terms of the transaction were private. I George Marcus, trainer for Mrs. E. Miller, will have the cast removed from his foot, which was fractured in three places. De-1 spite his injury, the veteran conditioner has been attending his training duties, direct-! ing the work while hobbling around on J crutches.
