: : aOOTO IN SPEEDY TRIAL Kentucky Derby Candidate Works Mile in 1 :38 at River Downs To Start in Derby Trial. CINCINNATI, Ohio, April 28 Following close on the heels of the sensational trial of the Woolford Farm hope Lawrin, at Churchill Downs Wednesday, another candidate for the Kentucky Derby loomed up prominently this morning when the Blue Ridge Farms Elooto, son of Pompey and St. Rita, reeled off a mile in 1:38 over the River Downs course. Breaking in front of the stand the sturdy three-year-old covered the first quarter in :23 and moved the next quarter at a slightly brisker pace to reach the half mark in :47. The son of Pompey continued along at a fine clip and was caught the five-eighths in :59, the six furlongs in 1:12 and finished out the mile under a slight pull. He pulled up in fine fashion and cooled out nicely. His trainer, Otto Bagley, highly enthused over the manner in which the colt worked, immediately made arrangements to van him to Louisville, where he will be given an opportunity in the Derby Trial to be run at Churchill Downs Tuesday afternoon. Elooto will be returned to River Downs after the Derby to join the extensive string of the Chicago-owned stable that will be campaigned throughout the local session. Today was another busy day at the up the river track and noted many important arrivals. The Peacock Stable of nineteen, headed by the good sprinter Air Line, Skeeter and My Chickadee, arrived early this morning. B. Bagley, trainer of the stable, supervised the unloading. T. D. Buhl, prominent Detroit sportsman, has the veteran campaigner Gyral, the speedy Sweep Like, Couleedam, Nad and Be Shy to carry his silks at the meeting.
