LOWERS TRACK RECORD Warren Wrights Colt Runs Mile and an Eighth in 1 :49. Outfinishes Menow in Close. Finish With Redbreast in Third Place Keeneland Finale. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 28. Warren I Wrights Bull Lea gained new importance as a Kentucky Derby candidate when he again took the measure of Hal Price Head-leys Menow in the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland today and lowered the one mile and an eighth track record to 1:49. He was carrying two pounds less than Menow, the weights being 121 and 123, but he came from behind a very fast pace set by the Headley colt and beat him by a neck in a . thrilling finish that saw the Greentree Sta-j bles Redbreast third, three lengths back. I The Blue Grass Stakes was the finale of the Keeneland meeting, one of the best yet staged at the colorful Blue Grass course. Joseph E. Wideners Rembrandt, long-striding gelding by Sickle and Pantica, won the opening dash over the Headley course with a whirlwind finish, defeating Leo W. Ulmers Sis Lottie by a half length, as Charles Nuckols My Day was another nose back. Euneva was a well beaten fourth among the seven juveniles meeting under moderate claiming conditions. Under Irving Anderson, Rembrandt had difficulty finding his stride in the early stages but, upon reaching the stretch, he cut down the leaders advantage steadily to get to the front in the last few strides. E. B. McAtees Miss Wise, coupled with Down in Front and Smooth in the field, defeated eleven other lowly platers at six furlongs in the second race, coming away in the final furlong to gain the decision by two Continued on ninth page. Finchs Barbara J. followed at the heels of the latter as Twinkle Feet was fourth. Frozen Mask, sporting the Detroit-owned Tall Trees Stables silks, was much the best of the dozen lowly three-year-olds going six furlongs in the third race. Under restraint from Lr. Sisler while closely following the pace to the stretch, the daughter of Osculator came away when called upon to draw away into a lead of four lengths at the end over Oddesa Don, owned by Oddesa Farms. Wood-vale Farms Bess B., the favorite, was another half length away. Court Away, which finished fourth, set a good pace until reach" ing the stretch, where she tired as Frozen Mask came alongside to assume command. Oddesa Don was a factor throughout, while Bess B. made up ground gradually. The fourth race, over the Headley course, which attracted nine maiden youngsters, resulted in an easy victory for Shandon Farms Fair Rock, the well-backed favorite. The daughter of Rock Man and Fair Vixen ran the distance in 47 seconds, to win by two and a half lengths over the Greentree Stables Mousie, as L. C. Youngs Ed was another six lengths away. Fair Rock was away quickly but had to put Dick Ulmer away, pinching the latter back near the end of the first quarter. She then drew away, but was threatened again by Mousie entering the final eighth. Jack Richard shook up the Shandon miss and she readily stood her ground, while Ed came from well back, to be third. Passing the others in the fifth race, the C. C. Stables Star Banner easily took the purse after six furlongs in which a half dozen ordinary platers were engaged. The daughter 1 of Pennant and Star Stone, ably ridden by 1 Sammy Williams, won by two lengths over 1 Mrs. Edward Haughtons Cruising, the favorite, as the Tall Trees Stables Kermay was another half length back and well before Windshield. Alice Highland, Adolf and Wind- shield dominated the early running as ing was rated in fourth position and Star Banner last. Cruising was the first to make his move and he got to the front on the outside approaching the sixteenth pole. His advantage was short lived as Williams brought up Star Banner with a tremendous rush after i turning her loose half way around the turn.
