j T OMAHA TURF NOTES : : , 7t. E. McGregor, owner of the Claremore Stable, who won the first race of last years Ak-Sar-Ben meeting with Barrette, brought his stable in from New Orleans some time ago and hopes to repeat when the 1938 meeting opens here on May 28. After losing Barrette by a .claim, Mr. McGregor got the horse back before leaving New Orleans. Others in his string are The Pelican, Avenue S., Tarping and Impeach. One of the early arrivals at Ak-Sar-Ben from Hot Springs was Sam Landis of Fillmore, Mo., who brought up Pickard, Ben D.t Johnnie Girl, Arrow Glide and Silk Wheel. George Cruise of Messena, Iowa, has Cur-ley Cue and Richard III. on the grounds. The mare Curley Cue was a consistent performer, winning ten races last year. Another Iowan, B. F. Johnson of Clarinda, is here with Amazer and Miss Sesgy. Newcomers to this years Ak-Sar-Ben meet are the stables of Baca. and Burrus, and of Closson and Closson, which arrived together from Santa Fe, N. M., on April 21. They include the following twelve head: Solable, Eagle Feathers, Taos Runner, Taos Adobe, Don Seco, Fervorita, Mexican Girl, Diego Dean, Poly Royal, Paridetta, Sky Celt and Sky Bramble. R. E. Burrus is the trainer of all the horses. A. J. Heffernan, supervisor of registrations and placing judge at Ak-Sar-Ben, was an Omaha visitor this week, en route to San Francisco, where he is a member of the official family at Tanforan. Heffernan will return to Omaha in time for the opening of the track on May 28. Bald Eagle, champion of the Nebraska-fa reds, is on the grounds and the old warrior looks fit" and ready. His owner, L. F. Fair-i child, of Ogallala, Neb., is right here with the sturdy champion and gives him his personal attention. Bald Eagle is the only horse in Fairchilds stable, arid from the care he receives, one would think he was an only child. Mr. Fairchild, a retired farmer, is one of the best liked horsemen to race at Ak-Sar-Ben. E. K. Murry, the Omaha horsemen, has his handy band at the track getting ready. They include Noahs Pride, Sunberra, Apple Annie, Joseph A, and Cyrus P.
