New Englands Best Field To Meet in Puritan Handicap 0,000 Added Feature of Saturdays Card at Suffolk Downs Clodion, Corinto Share Top Weights, Each With 120 Pounds— Weather and Track Conditions Uncertain. BOSTON, Mass., May 20.— The best field that has gone to the post in New England this season has been named overnight for the Puritan Handicap, 0,000 added feature of tomorrows racing at Suffolk Downs. Eleven have accepted the weights assigned by secretary Gene Bury, including Ogden Phipps Teufel and W. A. Carters Clodion, shipped up from New York especially for the race. Five of the eleven hopes are eligibles for the 0,000 added Massachusetts Handicap, main event of the New England season, which is down for decision here on June 29. The Massachusetts eligibles in the promised field are Corinto, Clodion, War Minstrel, Peligroso II. and Singers Folly. Clodion, under 120, shares top weight with Corinto. The latter will be coupled in the betting with War Minstrel as the Mrs. Emil Denemark entry. The race is an exceedingly tough one to line up, but it appears that Clodion will rule a slight choice. He has been here since early in the week, undergoing final preparations for the race, and has come up to the event in excellent fashion. He will have the services of Nick Wall, greatest lightweight rider in the land, who piloted Stagehand to victory in the 00,000 Santa Anita Handicap. He sped a half mile I in :49 as his final blowout this morning. He 1 has been a winner at Bowie and New York recently. He took the measure of Merry Lassie in his New York score. DENEMARK ENTRY FAVORITE. The Denemark entry of Corinto and War Minstrel may be second choice In the betting. Both are capable campaigners, with War Minstrel appearing to hold a slight edge over his stablemate. The latter is in under 119. Teufel, another New York invader, will receive heavy support tomorrow. He arrived here yesterdayand is declared ready for the race. He has not worked over the track here. Blackbirder, a New England favorite for several seasons, should go well tomorrow afternoon under 112. There is plenty of speed Continued on thirty-sixth page. He is one of the best stretch runners among the stake racers here. Peligroso II., the South American, ran an excellent race in winning here the other afternoon and should improve off the effort. The Carlos de la Carda stable believes that he is a high-class thoroughbred and a real threat for Massachusetts Handicap honors. The track was fast as racing opened here this afternoon, but it was a cloudy day and track conditions tomorrow are hard to predict. ; 1 . v U
