POUND FOOLISH QUALIFIES Special Cablegram. NEWMARKET, England, May 20.— Lord Astors Derby hope Pound Foolish broke from the maiden ranks at York when leading home three rivals in the one mile and a half Great Northern Stakes, his final test for the Epsom Classic on June 1. In a thrilling finish, the even money choice Pound Foolish scored by a scant head over the American-owned Wm. Woodwards Valerian III., also a Derby eligible. Three lengths farther back, Lord Derbys Sabot was third. After the race, Pound Foolish, son of Blanford and Penny Come Quick, had to run the gauntlet of an objection, which wai I overruled by the stewards.
