MANIE OHARA IN TRIUMPH Carries R. D. Williams Colors to Auspicious Return to Turf at Churchill Downs Course. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 20.— The colors of R. D. Williams, who spent ten years on the ground for his alleged part in a ring said to j have indulged in sharp practices, madj an j auspicious return to the turf at Churchill Downs this afternoon when Manie OHara, a cast-off of the Milky Way Farm, won the third race, a test of six furlongs engaging a I field of eight. The gray three-year-old daugh-I ter of The Satrap, the choice of the large | Friday crowd, scored by a length and one-half as Frozen Mask finished second and Ethelmont ran third. Manie OHara, with Charley Landolt at the reins, was never far away as Frozen Mask set the pace, and when straightened out in the stretch the Williams filly steadily worked her way forward. She got to the front just inside the final furlong and then steadily pulled away. Frozen Mask was not equal to the winners charge, but she was easily best of the others, taking second place by four lengths, while Ethelmont beat Chub-bins a head for third money. The Williams filly recently acquired only a short time ago completed a double which paid holders of the lucky pasteboards 42.00 for .00. Bien Chance won the first half of the double. Todays racing was staged over sloppy footing, a deluge around noon soaking the track which was fast this morning. As a result of the change in track conditions there were numerous withdrawals from the original card and small fields contested each of the eight events. The fourth race, the Eastern Parkway Purse, at four and one-half furlongs, saw Royal Pam make every post a winning one under the silks of former Senator Johnson N. Camden, chairman of the Kentucky Racing Commission. Strongly supported in the mutuels, the daughter of Royal Minstrel won only by a neck but her rider, Ira Hanford, still had her under snug hold as she crossed the line of finish. Holton, trying to complete a double for Valdina Farm, got the place, while Blossom Queen was six lengths farther I away in third place. »
