ROOSEVELTS DRASTIC STATEMENT CAUSES SENSATION IN ENGLAND LONDON, England, Nov. 16. President Roosevelts drastic statement publicly criticizing the policy of the German government toward Jews caused a sensation among British government officials today. Both press and public here expected the American chief executives rebuke to the Nazi government would intensify expressions from all parts of the world denouncing the reichs anti-Jewish measures. It was also expected to have an influence in stiffening the hitherto shaky attitude of the British government toward developments in Germany. The British cabinet met today and reviewed fully the situation in the light of latest developments, including President Roosevelts blast. Washingtons desire for constructive action to assist the Jewish refugees at the earliest possible moment is now fully known and 1ecognized by Whitehall, but British circles admit frankly that the possibility of evolving workable proposals will be extremely difficult.
