RACE FOR TRAINING HONORS Beezley, Wyatt and Homing Competing on West Coast. Trio Tied at Last Reports in Number of Winners Saddled Sprinters Like Tanforan Course. SAN BRUNO, Calif., Nov. 16. Earl Beezley, Eual Wyatt and Ted Horning, present big three of the Western training brigade, are putting up a mighty battle for the honors in their calling. All are now tied with fifty-seven each, as both Beezley and Wyatt j saddled winners on the opening day at Tanforan. "Miracle Man" Beezley was given quite a salute by the public as he unsaddled his winning charge, Susi Q. The Nebraska turfman will be helped in his fight for the trainers championship by the addition of the Kozinsky Bros. horses, which he recently took over. Johnny Adams meanwhile was continuing his determined bid to usurp Johnny Long-dens jockey honors for the year by riding three winners. "Shorty" was in rare form on Tanforans inaugural day, rating his mounts to perfection. He won with Bels Beau, Time Flight and Danfield. Incidentally, sprinting horses seemed to last longer over Tanforans re-soiled strip on opening day and Adams services should be in demand, as he is a 25 per cent better pilot on front-running horses than on those that race from behind. JUMPER ON THE FLAT. Interesting was the announcement that Ossabaw, a former steeplechase horse now owned by Louis B. Mayer, would be sent to Tanforan to race on the flat. Ossabaw will arrive with Magic Hour. Ossabaw, a giant of a horse, won his last five steeplechase starts on New York tracks. Pete Bost-wick, noted society horseman and a recent visitor at Bay Meadows, stated that he was of the opinion that Ossabaw woulld become a real threat in handicap ranks at Santa Anita during the coming winter. It will be remembered that Azucar, one-time steeplechaser, won the first Santa Anita Handicap and that Chase Me, another hurdler, created a sensation when converted into a flat racer. It is strictly up to "Pinkey" Grimes, the Mayer trainer, to convert Ossabaw into a flat route runner and the handy man believes he can do the trick. Grimes once trained Grandace, Ossabaws sire, for "Fatty" Anderson. Brown Jade, good California-bred filly, was reported to have corked herself on opening day. The report circulated is that she was forced into close quarters by Townsman. The way we saw it was Townsman was in close quarters on the inside of Brown Jade. So much so that he was forced to take up. INAUSPICIOUS START. Although the weather was pleasant and a good program was offered, Tanforan did not have such a successful opening. For the first time during the San Francisco autumn racing season, the pari-mutuel handle fell below 00,000. The handle was 3,122. With the exception of a maiden two-year-old race, an all-claiming bill is offered for Thursday. What it lacks in quality it makes up in quantity, as full fields go in all but two of the eight races. Some interesting horses were on the track at Tanforan Wednesday morning, among them Vino Puro, which Horace Luro recently brought up from Rio de Janeiro. Senor Luro is very high on Vino Puro and the invader is a handsome animal. Olimpio, another South American horse, continues to train well, while Raoul Walshs imported Irishman, Mt. Vernon II., seems to be on the improve. Advocator and Sweepalot breezed Wednes-1 day morning, indicating they may take part in the ,500 Yerba Buena Handicap, scheduled Saturday.
