REPORT CLANG DOING WELL Attempt Will Be Made to Bring Worlds Record Holder Back to the Races After Jan. 1. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 22. Shortly after the turn of the new year, an attempt will be made to bring Clang back to the races, according to John F. Clark, Jr., owner of the speedy gelding which has been in Lexington, Ky., for more than a year undergoing the training that has enabled several other top-notch racers to stage a successful comeback on the turf. Clark has completed arrangements for the shipment of the son of Stimulus to the Crescent City and is hopeful that he will stand training, but it is doubtful if he will be ready for competition until the waning days of the Louisiana Jockey Club meeting, if that soon. Hunter Moody, who has been looking after the care of Clang since he was sent to Kentucky, has achieved success in bringing back other racers of consequence and, according to reports reaching here from the Kentuck-ian, theres no obvious reason why Clang could not essay a comeback. Clang, before his retirement because of a bowed tendon, established a worlds record Jor six furlongs when he traversed the six furlongs of the Coney Island track, now known as River Downs, in 1:09, a mark that has stood unequalled since October 12, 1935, when the Stimulus speedster was a three-year-old and defeated Myrtlewood in a match race. Earlier in the same year Clang gained the distinction of tieing the worlds record for seven furlongs, which was credited to the immortal Roseben, negotiating the distance In 1:22 flat at Arlington Park. It was the following spring at Belmont Park that Clang went amiss in a workout and has not been in competition during 1936-37-38, although an j effort was made to return him to training , slightly more than a year ago without success, j Clang was among the first thoroughbred purchases of the New Orleans, sportsman and, incidentally, the most famous racer he has ever had carry his colors.
