8 SPECIFY AT ARCADIA COURSE Baroni Star Racer Arrival in Special of Twelve Cars. Vino Puro, South American Importation, Attracts Much Attention From Western Horsemen. ARCADIA, Calif., Dec. 22. With racing in California taking a lapse of two weeks, activity centered upon the arival of the big shipment from Tanforan, with consignments arriving hourly in express cars and vans. The shipments of eastern horses have about all arrived, and now the problem confronting the management is the housing of the stock from the northern part of California and other nearby points. One of the largest consignments was when twelve express cars were spotted for disposal. The most popular performer among the arrivals was A. A. "Bert" Baronis Specify, right off the cars from his triumph in the San Francisco Handicap, which featured the closing days racing at the San Bruno course. The sturdy son of Jamestown and Designate moved out of his stall in the express car with his tail over his back, much to the surprise of the many visitors who j journeyed to the unloading platform to witness the discharging of the cargo, f Specify had an exacting task in gaining his t conquest by the narrow margin of a nose over the Binglin Stables Ligaroti, but his effort seemingly did not tax his stamina. CANADIAN DELEGATION. Aside from the interest which was manifested in the unloading of Specify, there was much ado surrounding the horses which trainer C. T.JLeavitt brought here for Harry C. Hatch, prominent Canadian sportsman. The Hatch performers are a classy looking . lot with many promising young horses included in the string. The much heralded Vino Puro, which will represent Horace Luro, prominent owner and breeder from the Argentine, came in for commendation. He is a grand looking individual and, unless his looks are misleading, will make his ! mark. Paul Meredith, veteran trainer of the R.I C. Stable, maintained by Walter Hoffman,! Jr., of Ventura, brought ten head, of which; the star is Count Atlas, a candidate for the Santa Anita Handicap. The stock shipped j fine, said Meredith, after having them sent to quarters in barn number 2. Continued on fifteenth page. I j SPECIFY AT ARCADIA COURSE Continued from first page. Jack Hayes, conditioner of tho Three Ds Stock Farm, brought a string of nine, mostly young horses which will engage in the important stakes decided in the fifty-two days of racing at the palatial course. Onus is one of the mainstays of this string and formidable among the consistent performers which raced at Bay Meadows and Tanforan. A. R. "Buck" Bresler was another who brought a representative band of racers, the veteran horseman having in his string, headed by Come to Taw. HEFFERON CHARGES ARRIVE. Eddie Hefferon, among the younger suc-cesful conditioners, came in with eight head, of which seven race for Senator D. J. "Jack" Metzger, while the consistent Don Guzman is the only one which races for Hefferon. Included in the Metzger string is the promising two-year-old Jasmine, a full sister to the notable High Strike, stake winner in the Bing Crosby stable. Frank OLeary, in charge of the extensive stable of Coffman and Patterson, which race under the nom de course of the Fairmont Stable, unloaded ten head, of which Bubbling Boy is the star. Louis "Chief" Almgren brought a small but select stable to trainer N. Yorkie" McLeod, the string comprising three head, being: Alviso, Smoky Snyder, a stake win- ner, and one other.
