TUN B RIDGE DECISIVELY "Scores Popular Victory in Thursdays Main Race at Fair Grounds. Adolf Outlasts Monon Lad for Second Place in Final Strides j Garden Message Narrowly. r f NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 22. Tun-fcridgc, diminutive daughter of Ever Bub- -tiling and Alma Borland, raced to an emphatic and popular victory in the fourth race, the featured sprint on this afternoons Card at the Fair Grounds. Performing under the colors of J. J. Miller and piloted by Paul Keiper, Tunbridge covered the five and a half furlongs of this afternoons engagement in the creditable time of 1:069-; and that effort was sufficiently fast to put her three lengths in front as she passed the judges. Displaying high speed from the beginning, the Miller four-year-old took the lead going around the turn and held her rivals safe the rest of the way. After, reaching the final eighth, she began to widen on her rivals and completed the distance with something in reserve. "Butsey" Hernandez Adolf displayed his customary late burst of speed and made up many lengths in the final quarter to take the place from Monon Lad in the last stride. Monon Lad, owned by the Old Fox Stable, in turn took third money a length and a half before the Fairflax Stables Pegging A.way. Chanting, French Bread and Der-roche were the only other contestants. j HEADS APART. I Monon Lad, French Bread, Pegging Away and Tunbridge went into the turn heads apart, but about midway on the bend French Bread was forced back. Tunbridge, a little later, left her rivals and was never seriously threatened thereafter, while Monon Lad and Pegging Away battled each other to the last eighth for second money. Then Pegging Away began to falter, leaving Monon Lad to wage an unsuccessful quest for runner-jup honors with the fast-closing Adolf. Todays program was presented under skies that were partlv cloud", but the jweathcr was warm and a fair-sized crowd yfas in attendance. .. W. E. Nutters Instead registered his sec-ond victory of the meeting when he accounted for the six furlongs event which opened the program. The Nutter six-year-old, whose first victory here came through the disqualification of Margaret Nadi, made every post a winning one under the guidance of Delbert Slagle and withstood the challenge of Black Buddy to win by a neck. The latter lost much ground, being brought to the outside for the drive or he might have been able to reverse the order of finish on the winner. Moisson, after saving ground, closed well enough to be third, a half length behind the runner-up and a similar margin before Firm Hand. CARACOLE WINS. f . The second race, another at six furlongs, saw Mrs. Gordon McMackens Caracole get home in front under the handling of Albert Snider. The three-year-old son of Buddy Bauer shook off Heidi after a half mile and drew into a good lead approaching the last eighth, but My Feng was getting to him near the end and the McMacken three-year-olds winning margin was only a half length. My Feng moved up boldly next to the rail and in a few more strides might have overtaken Continued on fifteenth page. TDNBRIDGE DECISIVELY Continued from first page. the winner. As it was, My Feng: took second place two lengths before Jim Cornell. Ella-bee, a strong- favorite, could finish no better than fourth in the field of twelve. Heidi gave way badly after her display of speed for a half mile, as did Waugh Scout, which had been a sharp factor to the head of the stretch. The third race was a dash of five and a half furlongs, and it resulted in victory-for Mrs. I. H. Parkes Garden Message. The veteran plater, ridden by Delpha Castille, took the lead from Wenct and Royal Tuscan after reaching the stretch and then battled on gamely to protect his advantage to the end. He crossed the line of finish a head before Royal Tuscan, Wenet having dropped far out of contention in the final quarter. Idolatry, which had been well up from the beginning, accounted for third money, while Jadaan, far back early and the victim of interference, moved up stoutly next to the rail to be a bang-up fourth. uA,V,lLful ban-d of Platers got together in the fifth race, at a mile and an eighth, and until the field reached the final furlong it looked like a cinch for Glowset. This Upset filly took the lead at the break and led by a wide margin to the last eighth, but then she had enough and dropped out of the picture completely. The winner was the Fairflax Stables Ros-selli, which Edward Robart sent across the line of finish in front by a neck. Even closer was the margin between the second and third horses, Fire Advance beating Miss Firefly a matter of inches for runner-up honors Night Bud was a bang-up fourth in the field of eight.
