GOING SLOWLY WITH BRODEA Canadian Star Two Months, Away From Racing Form Should Be Ready for Derby. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 22. Brodea, highly regarded Canadian-bred two-year-old, owned by the estate of the late Joseph Cat-tarinich, is being taken along slowly in training at the Fair Grounds and, according to astute horsemen, the son of Brother Joe Dearinez, is two months away from making his return to competition. The training of the colt which is in the hands of O. Viau, has thus far been confined to slow gallops, as a member of the old school of conditioners, Viau is a firm believer in giving a young horse every chance to round into form before expecting any speed tests. However, unless something unforeseen occurs, Brodea should be ready for his supreme effort in the Louisiana Derby, which comes up for decision on the final day of the Louisiana Jockey Clubs 1938-39 meeting at the Fair Grounds. Although Brodea has neVer been seen under colors in the United States, the two-year-old performed in creditable manner in the Dominion, in fact sufficiently well to take rank as the outstanding juvenile to show in Canada during the past summer.
