RAILWAY EXPRESS INCREASING SHIPPING COSTS AFTER APR. 15 NEW YORK, N. Y., April 1. Horsemen who tarry at winter race tracks after April 15 will pay a heavy penalty for their dila-toriness. John J. Brady, of the Horsemens Transportation Association, has been notir fied that the railway express agency will increase its carload rate 10 per cent on horse shipments throughout the country on that date. This increase follows a similar one made just one year ago in switching and special engine charges. At the increased rate, it will cost horsemen 24.45 to ship a carload of twelve horses from California to Long Island, and 45.60 for a sixteen-horse car. From Miami to Long Island, the increase sixteen horses will amount to 5.40. From Miami to Bowie, it will be 0. From California to Bowie, the extra cost will be 21.90, and 40 for twelve and six-teen-horse shipments; respectively. Brady is urging owners and trainers to ship before April 15, and thus save the increased costs.
