PORTERS MITE HEADED EAST Belmont Futurity Winner to Compete in Chesapeake Stakes. Trainer Ted Horning Confident Boeing Colt Will Win Kentucky Derby-Adams to Bide. ARCADIA, Calif., April 1. Porters Mite got away from Santa Anita Park Friday morning, along with twenty-nine stable-mates, all headed for Maryland. The Belmont Futurity winner will be taken direct to Havre de Grace upon arrival in the old Line State, to be prepared for his engagement in the Chesapeake Handicap, but all the other horses in the William E. Boeing stable will detrain at Pimlico. "We feel confident Porters Mite will win the Kentucky Derby," trainer Horning stated here today. "Our horse will wipe out that bad race in the Santa Anita Derby, sure." Horning admitted that he is glad the filly Ciencia is not a candidate for the Churchill Downs classic, and stated that he is more afraid of Benefactor than any other eligible. -El Chico will have to show me that he can go the full route," Horning said, and added that he is not losing any sleep over Technician and the other Florida horses. Johnny Adams, who rode Kayak H. to victory in the Santa Anita Handicap, will pilot Porters Mite in the Chesapeake and the Derby. OLDER CAMPAIGNER. In the Boeing stable the older horses include Pax-scout, Air Chute, October Ale, Chief Gamble, Piccolo, Roy T., Galsun, Grim , Reaper, Lady Jaqueline, Gangplank, Dina Desmond, The Lake, Open Door, Murph purchased recently from Joe E. Brown, Brass Bottle and Miscompute. The juveniles in the outfit, none of which have as yet faced the barrier, are Buffoon, Picture Bride, Polly Portez, Buenos Surete, Skesna, The Malahat, Bird Haven, Peter Porter, Air Stream, Air Speed, The Knife, Liberty Knife and Sileetz. Several thoroughbreds owned by the airplane manufacturer will be left in California. Porters Mite has been kept in mild training since his Santa Anita Derby engagement, so that only a few works will be required to put him on edge after reaching Havre de Grace, Horning stated today. He breezed an easy mile in 1:43 Thursday morning at Santa Anifv, and this was the stiffest work he had since February 22.
