a KEENELAND TRAINERS ACTIVE No Curtailment of Workouts Despite Continuous Inclement Weather. Six Hundred Horses Expected on Grounds by April 13, Opening Day Sixteen in Phoenix Handicap. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 1. Despite the fact that inclement weather has had the racing strip in an "off" condition for almost a week, training activities at Keeneland have not been curtailed in the least, as trainers prep their charges for the inauguration of the spring season in the Blue Grass section on Thursday, April 13. Approximately C00 horses are anticipated by the time that the opening rolls around, and a check of the thoroughbreds already on the grounds reveals that more than 400 are present. Shipments from Florida and a number of the nearby farms within the next few days should provide an abundance of racing material. Sixteen of the older horses were named for the Phoenix Handicap, a six-furlong dash which will headline the in-ugural days program at Keeneland, and virtually all of this group are on the grounds and well advanced in their training for the inaugura headliner. Sabariel, a consistent winner at Oaklawn Park during the Hot Springs season, is expected here within the next few days to be pointed .for his Phoenix Handicap engagement. A field of at least twelve starters is contemplated for the opening day feature. Widening of the highway leading to the main entrance of Keeneland is nearing completion and should prove a boon to motorists in their entrance nd exit from the track.
