KEENWITTED WOMAN RISES TO HEIGHTS IN EMERGENCY EMERGENCYMrs Mrs Rhodes Gives Surgical Aid to Filly Injured on Texas Farm FarmBEDFORD BEDFORD Texas June 14 Legend has it that in an emergency a woman can be de ¬ pended upon to stand fast and stifle her emotions no matter what the cost Here is an example of what a keenwitted woman did in such an emergency Recently late at night at Mr and Mrs Dusty Rhodes country home near Bed ¬ ford Tarrant County one of their thorough ¬ bred yearling fillies which they keep as pets more than anything else snagged herself on a wire and suffered a deep gash in her near shoulder A hired hand rushed into the house and advised his employers of the acci ¬ dent It was too late to get a veterinary Be ¬ sides it was dark and the Rhodes place is far from the beaten track Mrs Rhodes got a pan of hat water sprinkled in some anti ¬ septic and made for the barn where the filly was quivering with pain painInstructing Instructing the hired hand to put a nose twitch on the filly Mrs Rhodes returned to the house got out a strong needle with extra strong thread After washing the wound and dusting in antiseptic powder she calmly sewed the torn flesh together mak ¬ ing twenty complete stitches and doing it in a workmanlike job Adding a little dressing and making the filly comfortable she called it a night nightIn In the morning when the veterinary made his appearance he complimented Mrs Rhodes on her fine stitching job and not only that found she had done such a good job it was not necessary to replace the stitches The filly recovered rapidly and now has only a slight scar to show for her acci ¬ dent dentI I felt as much pain as the filly did com ¬ mented Mrs Rhodes Her husband is Tar rant Countys constable
