OUTSTANDING MARES SENT TO BELFONDS AND PILATE PILATEWar War Plumage Is Among Matrons Served at Montana Hall Nursery NurseryWHITE WHITE POST Va June 14 Montana Hall is the extensive breeding stablisliment maintained by Abram S Hewitt outside the small crossroads hamlet of White Post but there has been no dearth of activity of late at the nurseiy which boasts the stallions Belfonds and Pilate Belfonds a grey son of Isard II and La Buire by Perth accouit ed for the 1925 running of the Prix du Jock ¬ ey Club at Chantilly France among his rac ¬ ing victories Pilate was Virginias leading sire of money winners in 1940 That chest ¬ nut son of Friar Rock Herodias by The Tetrarch is a well known stallion and sire of the stake winner Eight Thirty ThirtyNumerous Numerous stake winning mares were sent to the court of Pilate this season In that outstanding group was War Plumage a daughter of On Watch War Feathers which last year won the Washington Park Handicap at one mile and a quarter An ¬ other matron of which much is expecteo and mated with Pilate was Eight OClock halfsister to Eight Thirty Celebration the dam of Accolade was also booked to Pilate as was Knights Gal a full sister to the stakes KnightOf winner Gallant Knight Of interest in connection with Pilates stud servicces this season was the fact that Ralph Beaver Strassburger selected the Mon ¬ tana Hall stallion for mating with three of his imported young mares The matrons were Lititz by Bishops Rock and Columbia Grutta a daughter of Sanzio Toujours La and Scarlette by Trindon La Chancerie ChancerieFoals Foals at the Hewitt nursery are a colt by Belfonds Dicty colt by Balladier Far North colt by Valorous First Lady filly by Belfonds Jacola foal by Quatre Bras H Lucilla and colt by Pilate Cresta II The latter a daughter of Gay Crusader is the dam of winners including Our Crest CrestBooked Booked to the court of Belfonds was Bos ¬ porus dam of Bold Turk and Valorous ValorousWalter Walter Chryslers mare Lucilla which has a foal by Quatre Bras II was bred back to Pilate as was Crescent Stables matron Cresta II
