ARLINGTON PARK PLANT BEEHIVE OF ACTIVITY MANY IMPROVEMENTS BEING CARRIED OUT OUTNew New Lawn Benches Clubhouse Chairs and Mutuel Windows Added to North Side Course CourseArlington Arlington Park is now buzzing with activ ¬ ity in preparation for the opening of the big thirtyfourday meeting next Monday June 23 Although a majority of the 1400 horses which will engage in Arlingtons half million dollar program will not reach the stables of the North Side plant until the latter part of this week the vanguard of horses and horse ¬ men already is on the grounds The town of Arlington Heights has taken on the holiday appearance which always prevails in the suburb during the busy Arlington Park season seasonSince Since early spring a crew of workmen has been busily engaged in putting the huge plant in shape for the 1911 meeting and general manager John D Jackson reports everything in readiness for the opening Many improve ¬ ments of a permanent nature have been made These include benches on the grand ¬ stand terraced lawn providing seats for 4500 persons There are 3000 new chairs for club ¬ house patrons New mutuel windows include a section on the top or promenade floor of the grandstand grandstandIn In the stable area the permanent improve ¬ ments include new stables accommodating 200 additional horses Shower baths and a recreation center for stable help have been installed in a new building for that purpose A new inner rail of the most modern type and construction was built this spring springCOURSE COURSE OF BEAUTY AND COMFORT COMFORTWorkmen Workmen are putting the finishing touches on the landscaping in the center field and the outdoor paddock area Arlington Park famous throughout America for its beauty and comfort will be at its best for the first bugle call one week from today todayThe The office of racing secretary Robert S Shelley is equally busy Monday June 16 is the closing day for entries for four of the thirteen stakes on the Arlington program These are the Myrtlewood Handicap at six furlongs on the opening day the Primer Stakes for twoyearolds at five and one half furlongs on Wednesday June 25 the Arlington Matron Handicap on Saturday June 28 and the Stars and Stripes Handicap on July 4 The Stars and Stripes is endowed with 10000 in added money the Matron with 7500 and the other two with 2500 each eachThe The great problem confronting general manager Jackson has been the assignment of stable facilities Stall applications num ¬ bering almost twice the available room have been received showing how eager owners are to take part in Arlingtons generous pro ¬ gram gramTotal Total purse money for the thirtyfourday meeting will approach the halfmillion mark with a good chance of that figure being ex ¬ ceeded This means a daily average of close tc 15000 which explains the eagerness of owners to come to Chicago This generous outlay is to be continued at Washington Park following the Arlington meeting meetingLEADING LEADING STABLES HEAD FOB TBACK TBACKMost Most of the leading stables in America are included in the list of those now heading for Arlington Park Of course public inter ¬ est is centered in Warren Wrights Calumet Farm stable which will be brought to Ar ¬ lington under the care of the veteran trainer the sage Ben Jones because of the presence in that contingent of Whirlaway the sensational threeyearold of 1941 and the outstanding favorite for the Arlington Cassic CassicOther Other major establishments which will be at Arlington are the Milky Way Farm sta ¬ ble of Mrs Ethel V Mars trained by Roy Waldron the Woolford Farm stable trained by Ross Higdon the combined Millsdale and Pelleted stables trained by Willie Booth Hirsch Jacobs large public stable the King Ranch delegation handled by Wil ¬ lie Crump the Woodvale Farm stable trained by Steve Judge Dixiana farm trained by Cliff Porter the E H Bradley horses handled by J W Smith the Chi ¬ cagoowned Lexbrook stable trained by L J Wilson Mrs Emil Denemarks horses trained by D Womeldorff Clfcaveland Put ¬ nams horses under the care of B J Dur riell the Boeing stable trained by Cecil Wil helm the Bomar Stable with E Barnes and the Tower Stable trained by Moody Jolley
