BORDER THOROUGHBRED FARM IS FIRSTCLASS NURSERY NURSERYORANGE ORANGE Texas June 14 Rapidly de ¬ veloping into a firstclass nursery is the Border Thoroughbred Farm one mile south of the Old Spanish Trial and five miles east of Orange Started only three years ago by Felix J DeMary Beaumont businessman and sportsman the nursery has already produced promising youngsters three of which are now with the DeMary string of fifteen at Fairmount Park in the charge of Judge Tom Cravens The Orange County farm consists of about 100 acres There is a fivefurlong training track with an electric starting gate of six stalls stallsNine Nine yearlings and eleven foals of 1941 are on the farm Most of these youngsters are by Marconi out of Omar Khayyam but there are two or three by High Score Both stallions have impressive racing records Marconi won important stakes chief of which was the Lawrence Realization at Bel mont Park High Score won eleven straight races poundsMarconi twice carrying 138 pounds Marconi is a golden chestnut weighing a little more than 1000 pounds High Score a big brown horse stands almost seventeen hands and weighs about 1300 founds foundsDeMarys DeMarys thirteen brood mares won or were placed in important races The colts are in charge of Clint Savoy who is assisted by former jockey Murphy Trahan The latter hs been riding for DeMary three years and now at nineteen finds himself too heavy for the saddle He came back to the farm from Hot Springs and intends to train Mel vin Duchon a youngster from Louisiana is being schooled for Trahans place and will probably have his first mount in a race next August
