Y., June 25.— Jockey Alfred Robertson announced today that he had "hung up his tack and is through riding." Robertson reported to trainer Hugh Fontaine during the early hours at Belmont Park and galloped several horses. After dismounting he reported that he did not feel at home on a horse anymore and the zest for riding was lacking. Robertson later talked the situation over with Mrs. Robertson and then reported back to trainer Fontaine that he was through for all time. Robertson rode his first winner at Mount Royal in Montreal on May 28, 1927 and from Jockey Alfred Robertsons complete riding record will be found on page 2 that day to the present has been ranked with the top flight riders of the country. Last season he was awarded the New York Turf Writers plaque for the rider who was the best of the year. Throughout his successful career Robertson rode in all the important races of the country and has worn the silks of the Whit-neys, Mrs. Sloane, and the Wideners with distinction. Robertson, still a young man, plans a long, carefree rest. Later he may branch out on his own as an owner or trainer, or become associated with his father, who at the present time campaigns a stable over the New England tracks. Robertson rode here last Saturday, and in a mixup going to the stretch turn his mount stumbled and he was unseated. He suffered cuts and abrasions that kept him under observation for several days. Mrs. Dodge Sloane. who races the Brookmead* Stable to which Robertson was under contract, complimented him on his decision, although saddened at losing his services.
